Day 3 of 7 in Bali - Tuesday 6th September

Today, weather wise, was yet another day in paradise.
Warm and a little humid from the moment we rose.
As we had one of the best known breakfast bars in Seminyak, Shelter, we decided to walk the twenty steps to try it out.
tripadvisors subscribers rate it a 4.5/5
The food was good but I'd say 2.5 of the 4.5 was scored on "hip" value.

We walk out of our villa and look left to see Shelter

.....this is the villa, just to the left of Shelter

Tiz waiting for her nosh in very arty surroundings whilst listening to reggae, ska and rude boy mixes. We liked the vibe.

View of the local secondary college playing fields from the balcony.

Watermelon and guava smoothie and a double espresso.
Guess who had which one?

Berry pancakes with coconut icecream and maple syrup

Smashed advocado and poaches eggs on sourdough

The bill. Good breakfasts don't come cheap, no matter where you are and these young Balinese are very savvy and know how much their market will pay.

We didn't have anything planned for the day so we went for a long walk after breakfast.
It was a ~11km circuit but everything seemed farther than I remember it.
Maybe it's just that I'm getting older and less fit, if that were at all possible.

We walked down "Eat Street" where I took a pic of very odd layout for a restaurant ...
We walked past this place, the Char Char Grill, last night and thought it odd enough to include in the blog.
Its seating is, as you can see, are like the tiers of a local football stadium.
No fancy contoured seats, just concrete steps and all facing the street.
It gives new meaning to "people watching".
Not really my "cup of tea".

..... past the new Seminyak Village Square, where Deans new cooking and food complex will be up and running in a few weeks, past the back of Ku De Ta, down to the big building site behind La Lucciola.
There we got onto the beach and walked to the end of JL Camplan Tanduk.
As we headed back inland we called in to see if we could book a massage at the young woman who has a two bed massage hut by the pool at Puri Cendana resort.
I've been going there since I first went to Bali, just after she had had her first boy, and will try to only ever go to her for a massage. It's the best AU$8.50 you can spend for an hour worth of anything, and she is truly adorable.

Booking was made for 15:00, so that was one majot task out of the way.
Next stop - Bintang Supermarket. When I travel I get to the point where I just want a sandwich. I had reached that point today.

Some lettuce, a can of tuna, some cheddar, which is relatively expensive here in Bali, were going to make up a much desired yet very plain sandwich for lunch.

When lunch came I was not disappointed. It was everything I wanted.

No, there's no picture as what sort of a blogger shares a picture of tuna, cheese and lettuce on two slices of bread, arranged very messily? Not this one.

Mid afternoon we wandered down to the massuer and one hour later came out feeling very relaxed and supple.

For dinner we crossed the road and went to Made's Warung. It was the first place I ate at in Bali and although it is similar it too has changed.
The menu has evolved to cater for more foreigners and with less local dishes available. It was still quite good and cheap but tonight there were a lot of nanny's looking after screaming kids whilst their parent prepared for Galungan
which is a Hindu festival period like our Christmas which includes a day of not doing anything.
That day is Wednesday and the Balinese are reknowned for simply not turning up for work on the day. It might be a fasting day for us, with the exception of a lot of gin.
In reality I don't think that will be the case.

Made's had some local dancers doing some of the ceremonial dances for the crowd ....

.... but the out of control screaming kids made it less that pleaant so we ate and left.

Back tomorrow .......
